Bureaucratic Sonata

Like many artists early in their careers, Ortega Ayala worked for several years outside the art world—before, during, and after his studies—to support his artistic practice. Rather than treating these experiences as separate from his artistic work, he incorporated them into it, creating artworks that repurposed materials encountered in his workplace. The resulting body of work encompasses filmed performances, documented actions, process-based works, and large and small-scale sculptures. This section features a selection from this body of work.
