Monserrat (a phono-archaeology)-Film

The film travels through the island’s remains as we listen to a soundtrack that resurfaces oceanic and weather sounds, music played in bars pre-eruption, and human and natural recordings rescued from reels buried under ash at the former Radio Antilles station. It also incorporates acoustic experiments that capture the current resonant frequencies of the legendary AIR Studios established by Sir George Martin in Montserrat and brings back local sound traces hidden in pop albums recorded there in the ’80s that hide in plain sight within the melodies we still hum, sing, and dance to.
